Newborn Session Information

When should we book our newborn session?

The sooner the better. Most parents book their session towards the end of their second trimester. Since you don’t know exactly when your little one will arrive, we pencil you in on your due date. Once baby makes an entrance, we ask that you let us know; it is at that point that we get you on the calendar with an exact time and date. We do take on a limited number of newborn sessions per month to ensure availability. If your baby is already here, we will make our best effort to fit you in.

How old should our baby be?

The ideal window for newborn sessions is within the first 15 days of life. Of course, all babies are different, and it is possible to get newborn images after that window. In general, though, after this time, they tend to wake easier, are not as squishy, and often develop baby acne - all of which could hinder achieving that newborn look. They also are changing so quickly, and you really want to capture that fresh newborn look that fades so quickly.

What is a session like?

Sessions take place at the KSP home studio located in the quiet town of Killingworth, CT - nestled between Clinton and Old Saybrook. Only one session is booked per day, to allow ample time for your session with no interruptions. The session is led by your baby; we ensure their needs are taken care of, and never force a pose. Since your little one will likely be in their birthday suit, we keep the studio heated to roughly 80 degrees, and have everything needed to feed and change your baby.

What do we need to do for the session?

We are a full service studio, so all you need to do is provide the baby and we will take care of the rest! We do recommend a change of clothes in case yours get soiled during family photos. You are also relieved from diaper duty during the session - we will take care of any changing or messes. We have multiples couches and chairs, snacks and coffee, so we encourage you to sit back and relax, or even take a nap!

How long does a session last?

Since we do allow for any breaks baby needs (feeding, changes, or snuggles), the average session is about 3 - 4 hours. We do hope that you use this time for yourself to take a breather and relax.

Is family included in the session?

Of course, family images are encouraged! This includes siblings and parents. If you are hoping to bring anyone outside of the immediate family, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.

Ready to book?

We do request our clients come in for a consultation and planning session prior to your session. You will get to see and feel all of our archival heirloom products, including albums and wall art. At this time, you will also review and sign the contract and pay the session fee of $250.

What happens after the session?

At the end of your session, we will schedule a viewing and ordering appointment at the KSP studio within the next week. We will go over your images together, choose the ones you love for a collection and art pieces, and we are even able to show you what your art will look like on your walls. . All of our products come with a digital file of the image for you to share, print, and keep. Turn around time for most products is roughly 6 - 8 weeks, since everything is handmade. This excludes birth announcements, which we are able to get in your hands within a week.
